The bird shooting in South Africa is little known but for those who have been rate it with the best in the world. At harvest time, April through July, the rock pigeons and doves feed virtually unmolested on the sunflower and maize crops and offer a sporting challenge to the experienced bird shooter. Walked up guinea fowl and francolin add to the excitement for the rough shooter and remember that all bird hunting in South Africa is for wild birds as reared birds are not allowed.
South Africa has four direct flights every evening from Heathrow and is an eleven hour flight with only one hour time difference when you get there. No visas are required or inoculations and the area is malaria free. The weather in autumn is beautiful with average day temperatures of 26c and evenings of 13c.
Bryn’s love of bird shooting has encouraged him to link up with neighbouring crop farmers providing him with exceptional wing shooting on his own estate and neighbouring land. Therefore travelling time to the shooting field is very short.
You will be met at Johannesburg and taken north on a 2 hour drive to Swala Lodge where you will stay in the Lodge or at Bryn’s farmhouse. Every day you will be taken and escorted to the shooting field by experienced staff who will know where the shooting is best. You can stay and shoot all day or return to the Lodge at lunchtime to enjoy the other attractions of the estate. There are many things you can do to add variety to your stay.
Plains game hunters can go out to shoot any animal they choose from our list of available species or inexperienced hunters may want to try rifle shooting on our range. We can take you game viewing in our purpose built vehicles or on our horse carriages. We breed horses at Swala in our spare time. You can go to another reserve on a day safari and view the Big 5 and even go on an elephant backed safari or you can stay around the pool and relax.
There is so much to see and do in Africa and we can arrange any excursion you fancy. After a week at Swala you may want to see Cape Town or visit the battlefields in Natal. Many want to see the famous Victoria Falls and take a short safari in the Okavango Delta. We can arrange any of these for you.
For soccer fans we have a special program for 2010 where you can watch your favourite team take on the world with fabulous bird shooting in between.
